SEO in Dubai: a plain guide for business owners
SEO in Dubai is three jobs sold under one name. What each fixes, how English and Arabic search differ, how Maps works, and what to expect by month.
The short answer
SEO in Dubai is the work of getting your pages found when UAE customers search, in English and Arabic, on Google and in Maps. It splits into technical fixes, content that matches what people type, and trust signals such as links and reviews. Most sites see movement in 3 to 4 months. Competitive terms take 6 to 12.
Before you pay anyone for SEO, open Google Search Console, go to the Performance report and exclude every search that contains your company name. What's left is the traffic Google sends you for what you do rather than who you are. That figure is your baseline, and it's the one to hold any provider to.
If you can't get into Search Console, the login probably sits with a former agency or a developer who left. Fix that first. It's free, and the account should belong to your company, not to a supplier.
What are you paying for when you pay for SEO?
Three different jobs sit under the one word, and a proposal that doesn't separate them is hiding which one it's delivering. Technical work makes sure Google can reach and load your pages. Content work makes sure there's a page for what people actually type. Authority work gives Google a reason to trust you over the sites above you.
| Kind of work | What it fixes | What you'd see | Who has to act |
|---|---|---|---|
| Technical | Pages Google can't crawl, index or load quickly on a phone | More of your pages indexed, and Core Web Vitals passing in Search Console | Your developer, directed by the SEO |
| Content | No page for what customers actually type, or two pages competing for one search | Impressions and clicks on searches you never appeared in before | Writers in English and Arabic, with facts from you |
| Authority | Too little reason for Google to rank you above the established names | Links, mentions and reviews from places that matter in the UAE | You, your partners and your customers |
Technical, content and authority work also have a fixed order. Content on a site Google can't index is wasted effort, and links to a page that doesn't match the search won't rescue it. That's why a good SEO audit ranks the fixes before anyone writes a word.
Technical work is closer to a project than a subscription. Content and authority work is what a monthly fee should be paying for once the fixes are in, so from about month three most of a retainer should be going into pages and trust, not into re-fixing the same tags. The first weeks are laid out in the technical SEO checklist.
How is search in the UAE different?
Customers here search in two languages and sometimes in a third form: Arabic typed in Latin letters, known as Arabizi. An English-only site misses the Arabic searches, and an Arabic page translated word for word from the English one misses how Arabic speakers actually phrase them. Our Arabic SEO work starts from native keyword research for that reason.
How much of your business that Arabic represents is something to measure, not assume. The UAE government portal names Arabic as the official language and says expatriates outnumber nationals, without giving a percentage, and we couldn't find an official share of Arabic speakers either. Ask your sales team which language the last 50 enquiries arrived in, then compare Arabic and English search volumes for your main services in Google's Keyword Planner. If the answer is anything like one in five, Arabic deserves its own pages.
For many UAE businesses the enquiry arrives as a WhatsApp message, not a form. In GWI's Q2 2026 survey, published by DataReportal, 84.1% of UAE internet users aged 16 and over said they'd used WhatsApp in the past month, ahead of YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook. If your analytics counts only form fills, SEO will look worse than it is, so track WhatsApp taps and calls from day one (conversion tracking).
Customers also search by area and landmark rather than street address, and Dubai's own addressing leans on building names, areas and Makani numbers. A page for each area you serve is worth building only if each one says something true about that area. Swapping the place name on a copied page is a quick way to produce many pages made to rank rather than to help anyone, which is how Google's spam policy defines scaled content abuse.
Do Maps and local results need their own plan?
Yes, because local results run on different rules, and the biggest one is that you can't buy position. Google's Business Profile help says local results come down mainly to relevance, distance and popularity, which it explains under the heading prominence, and that you can't request or pay for a better local ranking. Relevance is how well your profile matches the search, distance is how far you are from the searcher, and prominence draws on links to your business and your reviews.
You control relevance in an afternoon and prominence over months. Distance you control only by opening somewhere else. So the order is a complete profile first, reviews second and location pages on your website third, using local SEO in Dubai, the Google Business Profile guide and getting more Google reviews.
What should you see, month by month?
Rankings are the last thing to move, and the first signs are ones you can check yourself in Search Console. Our published view is that most sites see movement in 3 to 4 months and competitive terms take 6 to 12. The sequence below is what to expect, and what to ask about when a month passes without it.
- Month 1: tracking counts calls, WhatsApp taps and forms, crawl blockers are fixed, the sitemap is submitted, and the target searches are agreed in both languages.
- Month 2: fixed and new pages show as indexed, and impressions start appearing for searches you never appeared in. If neither has moved, the cause is technical or quality related, and patience won't fix it.
- Months 3 and 4: the first non-brand clicks arrive, and pages sitting on page three or four start climbing toward page two.
- Months 5 and 6: the first enquiries can be traced to organic search, WhatsApp ones included.
- Months 6 to 12: competitive terms, the ones held by portals, directories and large brands, begin to move.

How does AI search change the work?
AI search changes what happens to the click far more than it changes the craft. Google's documentation says nothing extra is required to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode other than being indexed and eligible to show with a snippet, and its Search Help lists the UAE, with Arabic, among the places both are available. The foundation is the same as for ordinary search: pages Google can index and a snippet worth showing.
Where AI answers bite is traffic. Pew's analysis of March 2025 browsing data from 900 US adults found a traditional result was clicked in 8% of visits to Google pages with an AI summary, against 15% of visits without one, though Google has disputed the method. There's no UAE equivalent, so read it as a warning about informational pages that a summary can answer, not about pages where the visitor still has to book, buy or call. More in what AI Overviews do to traffic.
How do you choose who does the work?
Four questions sort providers faster than any pitch deck, and they apply whatever the fee. Send them in writing before the first meeting so the answers can be compared side by side.
- Who does the work, by name, and how many other sites do they handle?
- Which accounts will be in your name from day one: Search Console, Analytics and the Business Profile?
- Who writes the Arabic, and how is the keyword research done?
- What will the monthly report show, and can you see the same numbers in your own Search Console?
The full set of eleven, with what a weak answer sounds like, is in how to vet an SEO expert in Dubai. On price, our SEO work starts from AED 12,000 a month, excluding VAT, and is priced on scope. A quote far below that deserves the hours sum in cheap SEO in Dubai, and a quote that guarantees a ranking deserves a read of what the promise really means first.
Before committing budget, run the break-even sum in is SEO worth it for a UAE business, and decide whether paid search should go first with SEO or Google Ads first. Our SEO service page lists what we do in English and Arabic, and SEO cost in Dubai breaks down what moves the fee.
What should you do this week?
- Pull the baseline: Search Console, Performance, excluding your company name. Write down last month's non-brand clicks and impressions.
- Search your main services in English and in Arabic, from a phone, in the area you serve. Note which businesses appear and what kind of site holds page one.
- Open your Business Profile, or create one if there isn't one. Check that the name, address and phone match your website exactly.
- Check that WhatsApp taps and calls are counted as conversions. If they aren't, nothing you spend later will be measurable.
- Ask your developer whether the site blocks search engines anywhere. A site launched with search blocked is invisible however good the content is.
Do those five before you buy anything. They cost an afternoon, and they turn every conversation with an agency from a pitch into a comparison.
Questions people ask
How much does SEO cost in Dubai?
Magnetic Keys' SEO work starts from AED 12,000 a month, excluding VAT, and is priced on scope: the size of the site, whether Arabic is included and how contested your terms are. No verified market average exists, so compare providers by the hours and deliverables each fee buys, not by the headline number.
How long does SEO take to work in Dubai?
Most sites see movement in 3 to 4 months, and competitive terms take 6 to 12. The first signs are more pages indexed and more impressions in Google Search Console, not rankings. If neither has moved by the end of month two, the cause is technical or quality related rather than patience, and it deserves a written diagnosis.
Do I need Arabic SEO as well as English?
If a meaningful share of your enquiries arrives in Arabic, yes. Arabic pages need their own keyword research and a native writer, because a translation misses how people phrase a search. Check the language of your last 50 enquiries and compare Arabic and English search volumes in Google's Keyword Planner before deciding how much to invest.
Can a small business do SEO itself?
The local basics, yes: a complete Google Business Profile, a steady flow of reviews and a clear page for each service cost time rather than money. Technical fixes, Arabic content and link building are harder to do alone, so hire help for those once the basics are done and you know what a customer is worth.
Is SEO better than Google Ads?
They solve different problems. Google Ads can produce enquiries within weeks but stops when the budget stops. SEO takes months and then works without a per-click charge. When you can fund both, a sensible order is ads first, to learn which searches turn into enquiries, then SEO on the searches that did.
