Google Business Profile in the UAE: set-up, verification and ranking

A Google Business Profile costs nothing, and nobody can sell you a better position in it. Nine set-up steps, verification, suspensions and the UAE traps.

The short answer

A Google Business Profile costs nothing, and Google says you can't request or pay for a better local ranking. Claim or create the profile, pick the right primary category, enter the address the way customers find you, verify it, then add real photos and reply to reviews. Ranking rests mainly on relevance, distance and prominence.

Being on Google Maps costs nothing. A Google Business Profile, the product formerly called Google My Business, is free to create and free to keep, and Google's help page says you can't request or pay for a better local ranking. What agencies charge for is the work of setting it up well and keeping it alive, not the position, and you can do that work yourself this afternoon.

What does a Google Business Profile cost?

A Google Business Profile costs nothing to create, verify or manage, and its ranking can't be bought. Your costs are time, the photographs you take, and the hours your team spends answering reviews and messages. Google's advertising products are a separate service with their own prices.

How do you set up a profile in the UAE?

Nine steps, in order, with the fixes for the points where they stall.

  1. 01Search your business name on Google Maps first. If a listing exists, claim it instead of creating another. If someone else has already claimed it, such as a previous agency or an earlier owner, use the ownership request and keep your trade licence to hand.
  2. 02Create or claim it from an account your company controls, not a staff member's personal Gmail and not the agency's. Staff leave, and a profile tied to a departed employee's account turns into a recovery job. Add a second owner at once. If you've lost access, use Google's account recovery first, then the ownership request.
  3. 03Enter the name exactly as it appears on your signage and trade licence, with no keywords, area names or slogans. A name padded with search terms is the kind of edit Google can reverse or suspend for. If you've already done it, change it back before Google does.
  4. 04Choose the primary category by asking what a customer would type, then add secondary categories for services you really provide. The primary category tells Google what you are, so be specific. If the exact category doesn't exist, choose the closest and describe the rest in the services list.
  5. 05Decide between a customer-facing location and a service-area business. If customers visit you, enter the building, floor or unit and area, and put the pin on the entrance. If you travel to customers, or work from a villa, a shared desk or a virtual office, hide the address and list the areas you serve. A free zone or flexi-desk licence address can be legal and still be the wrong address for a profile.
  6. 06Add a phone number that's answered and a link to the page for that location, with tracking parameters on the link so analytics can separate profile visits. Put your WhatsApp link on that page, since many customers will message rather than call. If calls go to a switchboard, add the direct line instead.
  7. 07Set the hours someone really answers, including any Friday afternoon closure, then add holiday hours. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on 8 February and Eid Al Fitr on 9 or 10 March, both subject to moon sighting, so schedule special hours once the dates are confirmed. If a date moves, edit the hours the same day.
  8. 08Verify the profile. Google decides which methods to offer and you follow the on-screen choices. If verification fails, check the address, the name and the quality of any footage first, fix the cause and try again, rather than creating a new profile.
  9. 09Add photos and services. Photograph the exterior with signage, the entrance, the lift or lobby route, the parking and the inside, plus the team at work. Route photos help customers who have to find a tower entrance, a lift and a floor. Replace stock images with your own.

What does verification involve?

Verification is Google's check that the business exists at the place you entered and that you're entitled to manage it. You'll be offered whichever methods Google allows for that business, so don't plan around one. Whatever the method, have your trade licence, your signage and your premises ready.

If video is offered, film it without cuts: the street and the signage, the entrance, the inside or the work area, the equipment or stock, and a document showing your authority such as the trade licence. A service-area business with no premises should prepare to show vehicles, equipment, branded uniforms and the licence.

Why do profiles get suspended, and what do you do?

A suspension means Google has decided the profile doesn't match reality. Its systems have to guess who you are, where you are and who is managing the profile, so anything that muddies one of those raises the risk.

  • A name with keywords or an area added.
  • An address customers can't visit, such as a shared desk, a virtual office or a PO box.
  • Repeated major edits to the name, address or category in a short time.
  • Duplicate profiles for the same place, or profiles for areas you only serve.
  • Content that breaks the rules for the category, such as false claims or regulated advertising without the details the regulator requires.
  • Reviews that look manufactured, which is why getting reviews properly matters.

To recover, use the reinstatement request in the profile and attach proof that matches what Google shows: the trade licence, photos of the signage and premises, and anything placing the business at that address. Fix the cause before you ask, make only the changes the notice mentions, and keep a dated record. Never create a new profile to get around a suspension, because it produces the duplicate that causes trouble.

How do you rank higher once the profile is live?

Improve the three factors Google names: relevance, distance and popularity, which its help page explains under the heading prominence. For relevance, complete every field and keep the categories, services and website page consistent, and for distance put the location in honestly. For prominence, earn reviews and links, and don't expect reviews alone to carry a position. Local SEO in Dubai covers the sequence in detail.

What are the UAE-specific traps?

Regulated sectors need care with what a profile says and posts. As of November 2026, these are the points to take to the authority before you publish offers or claims. This isn't legal advice, so confirm with the authority concerned.

  • Sales and offers. Dubai Economy, now the Department of Economy and Tourism, said in June 2020 that anyone running a sale or promotional campaign in Dubai needs a permit from the department. If you post a sale or an offer on your profile, ask the department whether the permit applies first. Current fees and lead times weren't confirmed when we checked.
  • Clinics. The Dubai Health Authority's 2022 standard for medical advertisement content on social media requires a facility's official account to state its medical advertisement licence number, bars absolute or exaggerated claims such as best, safest, 100% and immediate results, and requires documented consent from any patient shown. Whether profile posts count as social media content is a question for the authority, and following the standard costs nothing in the meantime.
  • Property. Dubai Land Department runs an advertising permit system called Trakheesi. If a profile post markets a listing, ask the department whether it needs a permit.

If an agency manages the profile, it should be added as a manager rather than made the owner. On our engagements, accounts, pages and files stay in the client's name, and our SEO service covers local SEO alongside technical and content work. Open Google Maps now and search your business name. If you find a profile you didn't create, claim it today, because an unclaimed profile is open to suggested edits from anyone.

Questions people ask

01Is Google Business Profile free in the UAE?

Yes. Creating, verifying and managing a profile costs nothing, and Google's help page says you can't request or pay for a better local ranking. You pay only in time, photographs and the effort of answering reviews. Anyone charging for Maps ranking is charging for that work, not for the position.

02How do I verify my business on Google in Dubai?

Follow the options Google shows for your business, which depend on the business type and what Google already knows. Have your trade licence, signage and premises ready. If video is offered, film without cuts: street, signage, entrance, interior and a document proving authority. If it fails, fix the cause and retry rather than creating a new profile.

03Can I have a Google Business Profile without a shop?

Yes, as a service-area business. Hide the address and list the areas you travel to. Don't use a shared desk or virtual office address as if it were a shop customers can visit, because they can't, and the listing may be suspended.

04Why was my Google Business Profile suspended?

Google suspends profiles that don't match reality: names padded with keywords, addresses customers can't visit, repeated major edits, duplicates, or content that breaks the rules. Fix the cause, then send a reinstatement request with proof such as the trade licence and photos of the signage and premises.

05Is Google My Business the same as Google Business Profile?

Yes. Google My Business is the old name for the product now called Google Business Profile, and people still search for it by the old name. The profile is what appears in Google Maps and in the business panel on Google Search.
