Digital marketing trends in the UAE: what to act on in 2027 and what to ignore
Four digital marketing trends worth spending on in the UAE in 2027, four worth ignoring, and the sourced facts behind each call.
The short answer
Act on four trends in 2027: answers from AI search, first-party data, Arabic written for Arabic readers, and short video. Ignore four: llms.txt, FAQ rich-result markup, E-E-A-T scores and AI pages made in bulk. The test is whether a claim traces to a dated source and changes what you do on Monday.
Our view is that four trends deserve budget in 2027 and four deserve none, and the dividing line is whether the claim traces to a dated source that covers your market. The eight follow, with the evidence for each. Where a fact has limits, such as being US-only or a company's own figure, the limit is stated next to it.
Which four trends deserve budget in 2027?
AI answers, first-party data, Arabic written for Arabic readers and short video.
AI answers: make your facts easy to quote
Google's Search Help page lists the UAE among the places where AI Overviews and AI Mode are available, with Arabic among the supported languages. Availability doesn't mean every search shows one. Microsoft's Q2 2026 diffusion report puts the UAE first, with 73.3% of people aged 15 to 64 having used a generative AI product, against 18.8% worldwide in June 2026. That measures having tried one, not daily use and not use at work.
OpenAI has said ChatGPT has about 1.2 billion weekly users, as reported by TechCrunch in October 2026, which is a global figure from the company with no UAE split. The effect on clicks is argued over. Pew Research found US adults clicked a traditional result in 8% of Google visits that showed an AI summary and 15% of visits that didn't, using March 2025 browsing data from 900 adults, and Google has disputed the study's method. It's US data, and no UAE equivalent was found.
Google says appearing in AI Overviews or AI Mode takes nothing beyond a page that is indexed and eligible to show with a snippet. So the work is ordinary work done better: pages that answer the question in their first sentence, business facts that are right everywhere they appear, and mentions on third-party sites. See how to appear in Google AI Overviews and AEO in practice.
First-party data: build the list the platforms can't take away
First-party data is what customers tell you directly: contact details, consent, purchase history and the source of each enquiry. Meta's documentation describes its Conversions API as a link that feeds an advertiser's own marketing data into Meta's systems, and says a setup should confirm that events are deduplicated and matched correctly. That makes your own records the input, which is why tracking and CRM hygiene belong in a 2027 plan. See first-party data and conversion tracking in the UAE.
Consent is the other half. Google updated consent mode in November 2023 to add two parameters, ad_user_data and ad_personalization. Google's user consent policy names visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, not the UAE, so it isn't a UAE requirement in itself, though a UAE site with visitors from those places should check. The UAE's own PDPL is Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021, and its implementing regulations were yet to be issued in the most recent dated report we could verify, from Morgan Lewis on 15 June 2026. Collect consent properly now and record where each contact came from.
Arabic written for Arabic readers
The UAE government portal names Arabic as the official language and says expatriates outnumber UAE nationals, without giving a percentage. No official share of Arabic speakers could be confirmed to size the audience, so size it from your own enquiries. Google also lists Arabic among the supported languages for AI Overviews and AI Mode.
Our view: translated Arabic reads as translated, and machine translation makes it cheap to produce, so the difference shows in pages that a native writer built from the Arabic buyer's questions. We work with native Arabic writers and never machine-translate, which is the basis of our Arabic SEO service. Start with the five pages where an Arabic reader makes the decision. See Arabic marketing in the UAE and Khaleeji Arabic.
Short video: it runs on platforms most UAE internet users already use
In GWI's Q2 2026 survey, 75.5% of UAE internet users aged 16 and over said they'd used TikTok in the past month, with Instagram at 78.5% and YouTube at 81.4%. TikTok's own advertising tools showed 13.7 million adult users in late 2026, which is advertising reach rather than a count of residents.
Shoot for a question your buyer asks and plan around the calendar. Ramadan is expected to begin on 8 February 2027, subject to moon sighting, so the content for it gets shot in January. Video marketing in the UAE covers what to film, and short-form video defines the format.
Which four trends should you ignore?
llms.txt, FAQ markup for rich results, E-E-A-T scores and AI pages made in bulk, each for a reason that traces to Google's own documentation.
- llms.txt. Jeremy Howard proposed it on 3 September 2024 as a Markdown file that a website would publish for language models to read. Google's guide to generative AI features says you don't need such files and that Google Search doesn't use them. OpenAI hasn't confirmed using one, as far as published sources show. Keeping one costs little, but it isn't a ranking plan. See llms.txt.
- FAQ markup for rich results. Since August 2023 Google has limited FAQ rich results to government and health sites it treats as well known and authoritative, so a business site shouldn't expect them. Keep FAQs on the page because readers use them, and ignore anyone selling the markup as a shortcut.
- E-E-A-T scores. Google says E-E-A-T is not a ranking factor in itself, that trust is the most important of its aspects, and that quality rater data isn't used directly in ranking. If a tool hands you an E-E-A-T score, it is measuring something Google says it doesn't rank on. See E-E-A-T.
- AI pages made in bulk. Google's spam policies define scaled content abuse as many pages generated mainly to manipulate rankings and not to help users, and give generative AI pages with no added value as an example. Its February 2023 guidance rewards high-quality content however it is produced, and says using AI mainly to manipulate rankings breaks the spam policies. The test is purpose and value, not whether a tool was used or how many pages exist. See does Google penalise AI content.
How do you tell a trend from a sales pitch?
Ask four questions of any trend claim, and drop it at the first no.
- Does it name a source and a date? 'Studies show' fails. DataReportal warns that figures in each edition of its UAE report aren't directly comparable with earlier editions, so a headline claiming UAE social media 'grew' by comparing two editions is a pitch.
- Does the source cover the UAE? Several of the most-quoted search numbers are US-only. SparkToro's 2026 analysis found 68% of US Google searches ended without a click from January to April, and its founder warns the 2024 and 2026 studies aren't like for like.
- Does it change what you do on Monday? A trend that can't move a task on your calendar is entertainment.
- Who gets paid if you believe it? A trend sold as a product deserves more scrutiny than one reported as a number.
Pick one of the four to act on and put a date on its first task this month. If the list feels long, start with first-party data: it needs no platform's permission.
Questions people ask
What are the biggest digital marketing trends in the UAE for 2027?
Four are worth acting on: getting quoted in AI answers, collecting first-party data with consent, Arabic written for Arabic readers rather than translated, and short video. Google's help pages confirm AI Overviews and AI Mode in the UAE and in Arabic, and about three in four UAE internet users aged 16 and over (75.5%) told GWI in Q2 2026 that they'd used TikTok in the past month.
Is SEO still worth it in 2027 with AI search?
Yes, for Google's AI features at least. Its documentation says appearing in AI Overviews or AI Mode takes nothing beyond being indexed and eligible for a snippet, which is ordinary SEO groundwork. Clicks may fall when a summary appears, but the evidence is US-only and disputed, so track your own enquiries instead of rankings.
Should I add an llms.txt file to my website?
You can, but don't expect it to help. Google says Search doesn't use such files and that you don't need them, and published sources show no confirmation from OpenAI that it reads one. Your time is better spent on pages that answer questions clearly and on keeping your business details accurate everywhere they appear.
Does Google penalise AI-written content?
Not for using the tool. Google's position since February 2023 has two halves: high-quality content is rewarded however it is produced, and using AI mainly to game rankings breaks its spam policies. The risk is volume without value, such as many thin pages made to catch searches.
