Khaleeji Arabic

Also known as: Gulf Arabic · Gulf dialect

Definition

Khaleeji is the group of Arabic dialects spoken across the Gulf states including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain, differing from Modern Standard Arabic in vocabulary, pronunciation and everyday usage.

Marketing written in Modern Standard Arabic reads as formal and distant in consumer contexts, in roughly the way legal English would in a social post. Khaleeji forms read as local, and the difference materially affects response rates.

It matters for search as well as tone. People frequently type dialect terms rather than standard ones, so keyword research conducted only in MSA misses a large share of real demand — as does research translated from English.
