Video marketing in the UAE: what to shoot and what to skip
Start with one half-day of short vertical clips, not a brand film. What to shoot, what to skip, subtitles in both languages, and what to clear first.
The short answer
Shoot short vertical video first: one half-day, five customer questions, each answered on camera by the founder or a specialist, in both languages if you sell in both. Add subtitles in Arabic and English, and finish each clip on a WhatsApp link. Skip the brand film until short clips have shown you what viewers respond to.
Plan one half-day, one location and five questions, and come away with ten clips: each answer filmed once in Arabic and once in English if you sell in both languages. It's the cheapest way to learn what your audience will watch, because the effort in a shoot is mostly set-up and you pay it once.
Video isn't one channel here. In GWI's Q2 2026 survey, YouTube (81.4 per cent), Instagram (78.5), TikTok (75.5) and Facebook (75.2) were each used in the past month by more than three-quarters of UAE internet users aged 16 and over. A short vertical clip made once can run on all four.
What should you shoot, and what should you skip?
| Shoot | Skip | Why |
|---|---|---|
| The founder or a specialist answering one customer question in under a minute | A three-minute brand film about 'our journey' | Buyers want the answer to their question, and a brand film answers nobody's |
| The work itself: the process, the place, the product in use | Skyline and drone montage over stock music | Real work is proof, and a skyline says 'Dubai' and nothing about you |
| A customer saying what worried them before they bought, with written permission | Scripted testimonials read by staff | A real customer is evidence. An employee reading lines isn't |
| The price or the process, explained in the speaker's own voice with clean sound | Trending audio you haven't cleared for business use | A clear explanation keeps working after the trend has passed, and music rights are a licensing question |
| Before-and-after or product-in-use, only where you can prove the claim | Result claims you can't substantiate | Claims are rules territory, covered below |
The first row is the one that does the work. Pull the five questions from your WhatsApp enquiries, as set out in content marketing in the UAE, and have whoever knows the answer say it to someone standing next to the camera. A person talking to a person off-camera sounds like a conversation, and a person reading a prompter sounds like an advert.
Which language and subtitles should a UAE video use?
Film in the language the speaker thinks in, then subtitle in the other. A founder who answers best in Arabic should be filmed in Arabic with English subtitles, not made to perform in English. Burn the subtitles into the video, so the clip works with the sound off and for whichever language the viewer reads more comfortably.
Don't dub by default. A native writer should write the Arabic subtitles from the spoken meaning, not from a machine transcript, and a native reader should check them on a phone, where punctuation and Latin brand names inside right-to-left lines most often go wrong. The review method is in the Arabic writing guide.
What do you need to clear before you film?
People, places and music, in that order. For people, get a written release from everyone identifiable, in a language they read, naming the platforms and any paid use. In health advertising, Dubai Health Authority's standard goes further and requires documented consent from any patient or individual who appears. The federal personal data law exists, but Morgan Lewis reported in June 2026 that its detailed regulations were still to come, so written consent is the cautious standard.
For places, get written permission from whoever controls the location. We couldn't confirm UAE rules on filming permits in public places from an official source, so we won't state them. Ask the venue or landlord, and ask any production company to say in writing which permits it has arranged and who pays if one is refused.
For music, use tracks you hold a licence for, and read what the licence covers: platforms, countries, duration, and whether paid advertising is included. A track in an app's library isn't necessarily cleared for your ad.
If a creator will post the video on their own account, they'll need an Advertiser Permit unless an exemption applies. The permit has applied to promotional posts, paid or not, since 1 February 2026, and your own account is a separate case. Influencer marketing in the UAE and social media rules in the UAE go through it. None of this is legal advice.
How do you publish and measure short video?
Open on the answer in the first second, state the price or the result before the pitch, and end on one action: a WhatsApp link, not 'visit our website'. Make the same clip in both languages if your enquiries arrive in both, and post each where its audience already is.
Judge each clip by what happens after the view. Count WhatsApp chats started and qualified enquiries, using the ladder in Instagram marketing in the UAE, and use views only to compare one clip with another. When a clip earns replies without a budget, put money behind it as a Spark Ad on TikTok or a partnership ad on Instagram.
What does a four-week sequence look like?
- Week 1: collect the five questions customers ask most, and write each answer in five or six sentences. No script longer than that.
- Week 2: shoot everything in one half-day in one location with good light: five questions, filmed in both languages where your audience is bilingual.
- Week 3: edit with burned-in subtitles, get the Arabic checked by a native reader, and collect the signed releases.
- Week 4: publish three clips a week, answer every reply the same working day, and note which clip started the most chats.
When is a production company worth it?
When the video has to carry the brand beyond social: a tender submission, an exhibition screen, a homepage hero, a launch. For the weekly clips, a phone, a lapel microphone and a window are enough to start, and a freelancer with a camera is the step after that. For property specifically, property video in Dubai covers what to film at each stage of a sale.
Our social media service includes monthly studio production. When you do commission a full production, briefing a corporate video production company shows what to put in writing. Write down your five questions and book the half-day. Everything else here is what you do with the footage.
Questions people ask
What kind of video works best for UAE businesses?
Short vertical clips that answer a real customer question, filmed with the founder or a specialist and subtitled in Arabic and English. They run on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Facebook without being remade. Start with those before commissioning a brand film, and judge them by the WhatsApp chats and qualified enquiries they start.
Do I need a permit to film in Dubai?
We couldn't confirm filming permit rules from an official source, so we won't state them. Get written permission from whoever controls the location, and ask any production company to confirm in writing which permits it has arranged. Creators posting on their own accounts raise the separate Advertiser Permit question. This isn't legal advice.
How much does video production cost in the UAE?
Any figure we gave would be unsourced, so work from the drivers: shoot days, crew, locations, talent, languages, motion graphics, editing rounds and usage rights. Ask for an itemised quote. For short social clips, start with one half-day batch shoot, which spreads the set-up effort across many clips.
Should videos have both Arabic and English subtitles?
If your audience reads both, yes. Burn the subtitles into the video so it works with the sound off, write the Arabic from the spoken meaning rather than a machine transcript, and have a native reader check it on a phone, where punctuation and mixed-direction text most often go wrong.
