SEO trends for 2027: what will change in the UAE and what won't

Our view of SEO in 2027: more answers on the results page, Arabic taking part, reputation counting, and a core that stays. What to do about each.

The short answer

In 2027, expect more of the answer to appear on the results page, Arabic content to show up in AI answers, and reputation outside your site to count for more. Intent, fast crawlable pages and links won't change. Our advice: measure enquiries rather than clicks, make pages say something specific, earn mentions, and ignore tricks such as llms.txt.

Most 2027 predictions are about AI, and the most useful fact for planning is in Google's own documentation: no additional requirements apply to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, beyond being indexed and eligible to show with a snippet. That's a useful corrective to the pitch you'll hear all year, that AI search needs its own checklist.

This piece is a view, not a forecast we can prove. Facts are sourced and dated as of November 2026. Sentences that begin with our view, we expect or we infer are opinion, and you should weigh them that way.

What will change in 2027?

These are our views, each with the evidence that exists and a way to check it on your own site. Where a US study is the only evidence, we say so.

More of the answer will sit on the results page

Our view is that informational pages will lose clicks first, and pages that sell will lose fewer. The evidence is American and contested. Pew Research Center found that US adults clicked a traditional result in 8 per cent of Google visits that showed an AI summary, against 15 per cent of visits without one, using March 2025 browsing data from 900 adults. Google told The Register the study used a flawed method.

SparkToro's 2026 analysis of Similarweb panel data found 68 per cent of US Google searches ended without a click between January and April 2026. It used a different panel from SparkToro's 2024 study, so the two aren't a clean trend. Neither study has a UAE equivalent that we could verify, which is a reason to test on your own data.

Here's the test. In Search Console, compare clicks and impressions for your informational pages over the last 3 months against the 3 before. Impressions rising while clicks stay flat or fall is consistent with the US findings, and clicks holding would say they don't describe your market.

Arabic will take part in AI answers

Google lists the UAE as a place where AI Overviews and AI Mode are available, with Arabic among the supported languages. Microsoft's Q2 2026 AI Diffusion report ranks the UAE first, with 73.3 per cent of people aged 15 to 64 having used a generative AI product, against 18.8 per cent worldwide in June 2026. That measures having used a product, not daily use or use at work. OpenAI says ChatGPT has about 1.2 billion weekly users, a global company figure with no UAE number behind it.

We infer that UAE searchers are more likely than most to put a question to an assistant before, or instead of, a search box, so being named matters earlier here. We also expect Arabic answers built on thin translated pages to be weak, which leaves room for original Arabic pages. AI search in Arabic covers what changes.

Reputation outside your site will count for more

Google says E-E-A-T isn't a specific ranking factor, that trust is the most important of its aspects, and that quality rater data isn't used directly in ranking. For local results it says rankings rest mainly on relevance, distance and popularity, which its help page explains under the heading prominence.

We expect the sources named in a summarised answer to be the ones other sources already mention: reviews, press, supplier and association pages, consistent business details. That makes why third-party mentions shape what AI says about you a practical read, and it makes mentions a better use of a quarter's effort than another round of blog posts.

Publishing without a point will get riskier

Google's spam policies define scaled content abuse as many pages generated mainly to manipulate rankings rather than help users, and its test is whether a page helps its readers and why it exists, whatever tool made it and however many sit beside it. Its guidance on AI content cuts both ways: quality content is rewarded however it's produced, and using AI mainly to manipulate rankings breaks the spam policies.

Our view is that as pages become cheap to produce, the value moves to what only you have: prices, process, data, photographs, a named expert's judgement. A page that restates the top results adds nothing a summary can't already say.

What won't change?

  • Intent. A page still wins by matching what the searcher is trying to do, and search intent is still the first thing to check when a page doesn't rank.
  • Technical basics. Pages that can be crawled, indexed, read on a phone and loaded quickly are the entry ticket for results and for AI features alike, since both depend on being indexed.
  • Links and mentions. Other sites vouching for you is, we think, still the hardest signal to fake, and nothing about AI answers changes that.
  • Local presence. Searches with local intent still return a map block, and your Google Business Profile still decides if you appear in it.

Which 2027 advice should you ignore?

  • llms.txt as a Google visibility tactic. Google's guidance says you don't need new machine-readable files such as llms.txt for its generative AI features, and that Search doesn't use them. It's a proposal published in September 2024, and no confirmation that OpenAI uses it is on record that we could verify. Add one if it costs nothing, but don't pay for it.
  • FAQ markup for rich results. Since August 2023, Google shows FAQ rich results only for well-known, authoritative government and health sites. Writing FAQs for readers is still worth doing, but the markup won't earn a business site a rich result.
  • A promised percentage of AI visibility. The GEO research, accepted to KDD 2024 and written by researchers including some at Princeton University, reports that content changes can raise visibility in generated answers by up to 40 per cent on a 10,000-query benchmark. That measures how prominently a source is cited, not traffic or sales. It also found that adding citations, quotations and statistics helped and keyword stuffing didn't, which is worth doing because it makes pages better evidence, not because of the number.
  • E-E-A-T as a score to optimise. Google says it isn't a specific ranking factor, so any tool that gives you an E-E-A-T number is measuring its own idea of the term.

What would we do in the first quarter of 2027?

  1. 01Set the baseline: enquiries by source and by landing page, branded search impressions in Search Console, and a written list of the five questions your buyers ask most.
  2. 02Ask the assistants those five questions, in English and in Arabic, record who gets named and what's said about you, and repeat monthly. How to measure whether AI assistants mention your business has a method.
  3. 03Fix the foundations on your ten most valuable pages: indexed, fast on a phone, and clear about price, process and who you serve.
  4. 04Put something only you have on each of those pages, such as prices or the logic behind them, a process, photographs or your own data.
  5. 05Earn mentions: reviews, press, and association and supplier pages that name you.
  6. 06Add Arabic only where your team can answer Arabic enquiries, written from Arabic research rather than translated.

The plan above doesn't depend on us: the first two steps cost an afternoon, and they'll tell you whether 2027 means adjusting your plan or carrying on. If you want a hand with the rest, that's what our SEO service is for.

Questions people ask

01Will AI replace SEO in 2027?

Not on the evidence available. Google's documentation says there are no additional requirements to appear in its AI features beyond being indexed and eligible to show with a snippet, so the foundations are the same. What changes is where answers appear and how much click-through informational pages keep, which is worth measuring on your own site.

02Do AI Overviews reduce clicks to websites in the UAE?

Nobody has published a UAE figure that we could verify. US research from Pew found fewer clicks on traditional results when an AI summary appeared, though Google disputes the method. Compare clicks and impressions for your informational pages in Search Console over recent months to see whether the pattern shows up on your site.

03Is Arabic SEO more important in 2027?

Google lists Arabic among the supported languages for AI Overviews and AI Mode in the UAE, so Arabic pages can feed AI answers as well as results. Original Arabic content written from Arabic research is the opportunity. Translated pages that add nothing aren't.

04Should I add an llms.txt file to my website?

Google's guidance says you don't need llms.txt for its generative AI features and that Search doesn't use such files, and no confirmation that OpenAI uses it is on record that we could verify. If your platform can publish one at no cost it does no harm, but don't pay for it or expect it to improve rankings.

05What SEO should a small UAE business prioritise in 2027?

Pages that are indexed, fast on mobile and specific about price and process, plus reviews and mentions from other sites. Measure enquiries rather than clicks. Add Arabic pages only if your team can answer Arabic enquiries as fast as English ones.
