Entity SEO: making sure search engines know who you are
Search engines and AI assistants have to work out which business you are. How to keep your name, address and description identical, in English and Arabic.
The short answer
Entity SEO means making your business a clearly identified thing that search engines and AI assistants can tell apart from similarly named companies. The work is plain: the same name, address and description everywhere, organisation markup on your own site, links between your official profiles and one fixed Arabic spelling. Ask anyone who sells a Knowledge Graph listing to show you the mechanism.
Search for your business name in quotation marks, first in English and then in Arabic, and read the first page. If it mixes you up with another company, shows an address you left two years ago or spells you two ways, you've found the problem this post is about. Your content probably isn't the cause. The facts around it are.
What is an entity, and why does it matter for AI answers?
An entity is a specific thing, such as a company, a person or a place, that a search engine can identify and tell apart from others with similar names. To describe your firm or recommend your clinic, a search engine or an assistant first has to decide which firm or clinic it's dealing with. When sources disagree about your name or address, it has to pick one or leave you out, and neither is an outcome you chose. Entity SEO is the work of making that decision easy.
Google documents one concrete link between outside signals and visibility. It says local results rest mainly on relevance, distance and popularity, a factor its help page explains under the heading prominence, and that prominence draws on how many websites link to a business and how many reviews it has. Those links and reviews only add up if they attach to one recognisable business. Google also says you can't request or pay for a better local ranking, which makes your Google Business Profile something to keep accurate rather than something to game.
Where do your name, address and description have to match?
Everywhere a machine might read them, starting with the places you control. The table lists the usual ones and the snag to look for in each.
| Place | What must match | The snag to look for |
|---|---|---|
| Website footer, contact page and About page | Brand name, legal name, address, phone, opening hours | A trade licence name that differs from the brand and is shown nowhere |
| Schema markup | Legal name, trading name, Arabic name, official profile links | The Arabic name missing, or spelled differently from every profile |
| Google Business Profile | Name as it appears on the signage, address, category, hours | A map pin on the wrong entrance, or a duplicate listing from a previous office |
| Social profiles and LinkedIn | Name, one-line description, website address | A personal profile doing the job of a company page, or an old handle |
| Directories and industry bodies | Name, address, phone, category | The address from before the last office move |
| Press and partner pages | One approved description of the business | Each writer paraphrases you differently because nobody gave them a standard paragraph |
Write the description once. Keep a 25-word version and a 60-word version, in English and in Arabic, in a single document, and paste from it every time. A journalist, a directory editor, a partner's web team and your own social media manager then start from the same words. NAP consistency is the local SEO name for the same discipline.
Where the trade licence name differs from the brand, state both once, in the footer and in the markup, in the form 'X is the trading name of Y LLC'. That one line removes a mismatch that otherwise looks like two businesses.
What do organisation markup and sameAs do?
They tell software which business a page belongs to and which other profiles are officially yours. Define the organisation once on the home page, with its legal name, trading name, Arabic name as an alternate name, logo, address, phone number and a sameAs list of official profile addresses: your LinkedIn page, Instagram, YouTube, Google Business Profile and any directory page you control. Every other page can then point back to that one record.
Keep the claims modest. Google's AI documentation asks for no special markup, and nothing we checked promises that sameAs earns a knowledge panel. Its job is identification, and it only works if the profiles it points to agree with each other. Which types to add, and which to skip, is in schema markup for AI search.
Do you need a Wikipedia page?
No, and writing one yourself is the wrong route. Wikipedia has its own rules on notability and on editing about your own organisation, and a page needs independent coverage to stand on. Read those rules in full before touching anything, and ask anyone who promises to get you onto Wikipedia exactly how they would meet them.
If your business has real independent coverage, an editor with no connection to you may write the page. If it hasn't, press articles, directory entries and association lists are the realistic route, and the post on what third-party mentions do for AI answers covers them.
Can you apply for a knowledge panel?
Whether Google shows a knowledge panel for your business is Google's decision, and nobody can guarantee one. Panels draw on what Google already holds about an entity in its Knowledge Graph, so the useful work happens upstream: the consistent identity above, and independent sources that confirm it.
If a panel does appear for you, Google has a process for verified representatives to suggest changes. Look up the current steps on Google's help pages rather than trusting a blog, including this one.
How should the Arabic name be handled?
Pick one Arabic spelling and make it part of the brand file. Record it beside the Latin name in the same document as your descriptions, use it as the alternate name in your markup, and use it as the name on any Arabic profile. For people, such as founders or doctors, fix one Latin spelling too, because the same Arabic name can be written several ways in English.
AI search in Arabic shows where those splits happen. If you'd rather hand the audit over, our SEO service lists entity and schema coverage among its modules, with Arabic handled by native writers.
How do you check that it worked?
Re-run the original test a month after you finish, because directories and search engines update on their own schedules.
- Search your name in quotation marks in English and in Arabic, and compare the first page with the one you started from.
- Ask two assistants who your business is and where it is, in both languages. These are the by-name questions from the measurement panel.
- Look for duplicate or closed listings from old addresses on Google Maps, and report them for removal.
- Check whether any directory still shows old details, and note who to contact to change it.
Make one person the owner of the description document. Entity work fails by drift: someone changes a phone number on the website and nowhere else, and within a year you have two businesses again.
Questions people ask
What is entity SEO in simple terms?
It's making sure search engines and AI assistants can identify your business as one specific thing, distinct from others with similar names. You do it by keeping your name, address and description identical across your site, profiles and directories, adding organisation markup, and linking your official profiles to each other.
Can I buy a Knowledge Graph or knowledge panel listing?
Whether Google shows a knowledge panel is Google's decision, and nobody can guarantee one. Be wary of anyone selling a listing, and ask them to show the mechanism and a verifiable example. The reliable work is a consistent identity and independent sources that confirm it.
Does sameAs markup help me appear in AI answers?
It helps identify which profiles belong to your business, which is useful when names are similar. Google's AI features documentation asks for no special markup, and nothing we checked shows sameAs improves AI answers. Add it for clarity, and make sure the profiles it links to agree with each other.
Should my business have a Wikipedia page?
Only if independent sources have covered it enough for a neutral editor to write one, and not written by you. Wikipedia has its own rules on notability and on editing about your own organisation, so read them first. For most UAE businesses, directories, press and association lists are the realistic route.
