Entity SEO

Also known as: entity optimisation · entity-based SEO

Definition

Entity SEO is the practice of establishing a business, person or place as one clearly identified thing for search engines and AI assistants, so facts about it attach to the right name and it is not confused with similarly named entities.

A keyword is a string of characters. An entity is a thing: this company, at this address, with this licence. When sources disagree about the name, address or description, a search engine or assistant has to pick one version or leave the business out, and neither outcome was chosen by the owner. Entity SEO makes that decision easy by removing the disagreement.

The work is plain. Use the same name, address and description everywhere a machine might read them, mark up the organisation on its own site with its alternate names and a list of official profiles, and earn independent mentions that confirm the same facts. No markup guarantees a knowledge panel, and Google's documentation for its AI features asks for no special schema. Markup identifies. It only works if the profiles it points to agree with each other.

In the UAE the usual breaks are bilingual. One business may be known by an English name, an Arabic name that can be spelled several ways, and a trade licence name that differs from both. Fix one Latin spelling and one Arabic spelling, and state the licence name once, in the footer and in the markup, as the legal name behind the trading brand.
