Micro-influencer

Also known as: micro influencer · small creator

Definition

A micro-influencer is a creator with a smaller, more focused following than a celebrity or mega-influencer, valued for audience trust and niche relevance rather than reach. The follower range isn't standardised, so a quote should state the range it assumes.

A smaller audience can be an advantage, because it is easier to match to a specific buyer: a creator followed mostly by parents in one part of Dubai talks to a narrower group than a national celebrity. That only helps if the audience is real and local. Before agreeing a fee, ask for the audience's location split, the typical reach of the last ten posts, a sample of the comments and any paid work already done in your category.

The legal side is not optional. Anyone who posts promotional content on social media, paid or not, needs the Advertiser Permit, and the reported exemptions are narrow: promoting your own products, or those of a company you own, from a personal account, and some under-18 activities. Reports differ on whether a trade licence in electronic media is also needed, so ask each creator to show their permit and confirm the position with the National Media Authority. Put paid-usage rights in the contract if the content will run as an ad.
