Marketing automation

Also known as: MA · marketing automation platform

Definition

Marketing automation is software that runs marketing tasks from rules and triggers, such as sending a follow-up when a form is submitted, scoring leads by behaviour or assigning an owner. It carries out a defined process and doesn't design one.

A flow is a trigger, a condition and an action: a form arrives, the lead is in Dubai and asked about villas, so assign it to the right agent, send an acknowledgement and create a task. The standard flows are welcome, abandoned cart, lead follow-up, post-purchase and win-back. Rules like these are deterministic, which is why they suit processes that must run the same way every time, and why AI belongs at most in the one or two steps that need language.

Automate the process that already works by hand. Begin with the step that loses the most leads, usually the first reply, not a twelve-step journey. Automation will run a broken process faster and at greater volume, and it makes sending easy, so build in the UAE limits first: consent, TDRA's text-message window and unsubscribe rules, and approved templates for WhatsApp. Every live flow needs an owner and a review date, because forgotten automations keep firing long after anyone remembers why.
