Grounding

Definition

Constraining a model's output to information supplied to it — your documents, your data, a cited source — so claims can be traced rather than invented. The single most effective control against hallucination in marketing use.

Grounding usually means retrieval: before generating, the system fetches relevant material and instructs the model to answer only from it. The measurable difference is that every claim in the output has a source you can open.

It also changes the character of the writing. An ungrounded model writes the internet's average opinion about your category. A grounded one writes from your case studies, your numbers and your positioning — which is the only version worth publishing.
