How to write FAQs that AI assistants quote

Real questions, a first sentence that answers, and a specific an assistant can't invent. How to write FAQs worth quoting, with weak and better examples.

The short answer

Write FAQs from questions customers really ask, answer in the first sentence, and make each answer stand alone by naming the business, the place and the condition. Add one specific an assistant couldn't invent, such as a rule, a time or a licence. Don't expect FAQ rich results: Google has limited them to well-known government and health sites since 2023.

An FAQ written at a desk fills up with the questions the business wishes customers asked: 'Why choose us?' and 'What makes us different?' Real questions look different: 'is VAT included', 'can you come on Friday', 'how long does it take'. For many UAE businesses the true list sits in a WhatsApp inbox, and GWI's second-quarter 2026 survey, published by DataReportal, found 84.1% of UAE internet users aged 16 and over said they'd used WhatsApp in the past month, ahead of YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook.

How do you write an FAQ that gets quoted?

Work through nine steps, and do the first one before touching the page.

  1. 01Collect 50 real questions. Pull them from your sales team's WhatsApp chats and call logs (strip out personal details first), enquiry-form messages, your Search Console queries and the People Also Ask box for your main service.
  2. 02Keep the ones that decide a purchase: price, timing, who it's for, what's included, what could go wrong, cancellations and refunds, and the UAE basics such as whether VAT is included.
  3. 03Make the first sentence the whole answer. A reader, and a model lifting the first line, should get the commitment before any context.
  4. 04Make the answer stand alone. Name the business, the place and the condition inside the answer, because it may be quoted with nothing around it.
  5. 05Add the specific: a number, a name, a date, a limit, a licence. Where it's a fact about the world rather than your own price, say where it comes from.
  6. 06Stop at about 40 to 80 words. If an answer needs more, it's two questions.
  7. 07Write Arabic FAQs from Arabic questions, not as translations, and spell the business name in Arabic exactly as your profiles do.
  8. 08Date each answer and give it an owner. A price or a rule that has changed turns a helpful answer into a wrong one.
  9. 09Test after a few weeks: ask the question in two assistants, in both languages, and see whether your wording or facts come back. The measurement panel shows how.

What does a weak answer look like next to a better one?

A weak answer sounds friendly and commits to nothing, while a stronger one opens with the commitment and names who is making it. Take a made-up Dubai removals company, Example Movers. Every detail below is invented to show the format.

Weak and stronger answers for an invented removals company
QuestionWeak answerStronger answer
Do you offer packing?Yes, we do! Our professional team takes care of everything. Contact us for more information.Yes. Example Movers packs flats and villas in Dubai, including boxes, wrapping and unpacking, and includes it in a fixed price after a free video survey.
Is VAT included in the quote? Our prices are very competitive and include all applicable charges.No. Example Movers quotes exclude VAT, which is added to the invoice at the UAE standard rate of 5%. The quote shows both figures.
Do you move on Fridays? We are available most days, please call to check.Yes. Example Movers books moves seven days a week in Dubai and Sharjah, Fridays included, and confirms the date in writing on WhatsApp.
How long does a villa move take?It depends on the size of the villa and how much you have.A three-bedroom villa is usually one day for a crew of six, and a larger villa is planned over two days. The video survey fixes the figure for your move.

Each stronger answer opens with the answer, names the business and the place, states the condition and says what happens next. None needs the question above it to make sense. That's the test for a quotable answer: paste it alone into a note and see whether it still works.

The VAT row is a UAE detail worth copying. The Ministry of Finance gives the standard rate as 5%, introduced on 1 January 2018, and a business that quotes excluding VAT should say so in the answer, not in small print. Confirm your own position with your accountant.

Why put numbers, names and sources inside an answer?

Because the best-known research on visibility in AI answers points that way, within limits. The paper that gave GEO its name, by researchers including Princeton University, found that adding citations, quotations and statistics achieved a relative improvement of 30 to 40% on a position-adjusted measure of visibility in generated answers, while keyword stuffing did not perform well.

It's a benchmark from 2023 and 2024 that measures presence inside an answer, not visits or sales, and lower-ranked sites gained more. It isn't a promise for any engine today. It does support a habit that costs nothing: put the figure, and where it came from, inside the answer.

Does FAQ schema still help?

Not for the expandable answers it used to produce. Google narrowed FAQ rich results in August 2023 to well-known, authoritative government and health sites, so an ordinary business can't expect them and nobody should promise them.

No assistant maker's documentation that we checked says FAQ markup influences its answers, and Google's AI guidance asks for no special markup. So write the answers as visible text first, and keep the markup only if your CMS adds it for free. Schema markup for AI search goes through the types.

What should an FAQ never do?

Six habits ruin an FAQ's chance of being quoted.

  • Stuff question variants. Twenty near-identical questions that differ by one keyword add length, not help.
  • Answer with 'contact us'. An answer that withholds the answer can't be quoted, and the reader leaves.
  • Say 'it depends' without saying on what. Name the factors and give the rule for each.
  • Make claims you can't back. Clinics have extra limits on what they can say, which the post on AI search for UAE clinics covers.
  • Copy a competitor's FAQ. An assistant then has two pages saying the same thing and none saying anything of yours.
  • Leave stale answers live. A wrong price or hours entry is worse than none.

If the writing is the bottleneck, our content marketing service covers bilingual answers written by native Arabic writers, with a human editor on every piece.

Start with the five questions your sales team is tired of answering. Write those five to the standard above this week, and test them in two assistants next month.

Questions people ask

01How long should an FAQ answer be for AI search?

Aim for about 40 to 80 words: long enough to give the condition and the specific, short enough to be lifted whole. Put the full answer in the first sentence and use the rest for the exception or the next step. If you need more, you probably have two questions.

02Do I need FAQ schema to be quoted by AI assistants?

No source we checked says you do. Google's AI guidance asks for no special markup, and its FAQ rich results have been limited to well-known government and health websites since August 2023. Write clear visible answers first, and add the markup only if it costs you nothing.

03Where do I find the questions customers really ask?

Start with the WhatsApp chats and enquiry-form messages your team already handles, with personal details removed. Add the queries in Google Search Console and the People Also Ask box for your main service. The questions your sales team keeps answering by hand are the ones to write first.

04Should I write FAQs in Arabic as well as English?

Yes, if Arabic speakers buy from you, but write them from Arabic questions rather than translating the English ones. Arabic customers phrase concerns differently, and your brand's Arabic spelling should match your profiles. Have a native Arabic writer produce or edit them.
