What social media management should include, and what it shouldn't
A monthly social media management service should cover strategy, a calendar, production, approvals, community and reporting. Follower count isn't on the list.
The short answer
Social media management should cover six jobs each month: strategy, a content calendar, production in both languages, approvals, community replies and reporting tied to enquiries. It shouldn't include buying followers, posting daily for the sake of it, or reports that lead with likes. Follower counts aren't the job: customers who message you and buy are.
Open any social media management proposal and count what happens before a post goes live: research, a plan, scripts, shoots, approvals. If the deliverable is a number of posts and nothing else, you're buying a scheduler with a salary attached.
Social media management is the monthly work of deciding what a business says, producing it in the languages its customers read, publishing it, answering what comes back and reporting what it did for the business. Posting is the part you can see, which is why it's the part that gets sold. The rest is what separates a service from a scheduling tool.
What should a monthly service include?
Six jobs, and each one leaves evidence you can check. If a job leaves nothing you can see, assume it isn't being done.
| Job | What you should see | Weak version |
|---|---|---|
| Strategy | One page: who you're talking to, what each platform is for, and the single action every post points to, usually a WhatsApp chat | Content pillars that could belong to any business |
| Calendar | A month planned ahead, tied to your offers and to UAE dates that move demand | A grid of generic days, quotes and greetings |
| Production | Photos, video and copy made for your business, with Arabic written as Arabic | Stock images, one language, captions run through a translation tool |
| Approvals | A fixed turnaround on both sides and a record of who approved what | Posts you never saw, or posts waiting a week for you |
| Community | A named person, stated hours, a target reply time and a script from your sales team | 'We monitor comments' with no reply time |
| Reporting | One page: enquiries by source, share qualified, sales, with reach as context | Followers, likes and impressions at the top |
Tie the calendar to the dates that move your customers, and plan them early. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on 8 February, subject to moon sighting, per UAE Astronomy Centre projections reported by The National. The 32nd Dubai Shopping Festival runs from 4 December 2026 to 17 January 2027, according to its organiser.
The government portal lists National Day as a two-day holiday on 2 and 3 December, though you should check for a government notice before running a date-specific offer. A manager who hasn't raised next quarter's dates a month ahead is behind, and the UAE marketing calendar has the full list.
Approvals decide whether the calendar survives. Agree a turnaround on both sides, with one working day per round as a sensible start, and agree what happens when it's missed. A post that waits a week for sign-off has lost its moment, so decide in advance whether it's held or goes out as planned.
Community management is the job most packages leave vague, and it's the one closest to revenue. Ask for the person's name, the hours they cover and the reply time they're held to. Give them a script for the ten questions that come up most, and agree that anything which becomes a real enquiry moves to WhatsApp, where your sales team picks it up.
What shouldn't be in the package?
Anything that raises the follower count without making the phone ring. These are the line items worth striking out:
- Bought followers, likes or engagement packages. They inflate the number you'll be judged on and add an audience that will never buy.
- Follow-for-follow routines and engagement pods. Same problem, slower.
- Giveaways that reward follows and tags. They attract people who want the prize. A giveaway may also count as a promotional campaign, and Dubai Economy, now the Department of Economy and Tourism, said in 2020 that a permit is needed to run sales or promotional campaigns in Dubai. Check current scope and fees with the department before you run one.
- A daily posting target. Volume fixed by a contract, rather than by what's worth saying, is how calendars get padded.
- Promises of reach or follower growth. No manager controls how a platform distributes posts, so a guarantee means they don't know that or hope you don't.
- Reports that lead with likes, followers or impressions. Those belong lower down, as context.
What does the business owe the manager?
A retainer can fail on the client's side as easily as the agency's. A manager can't write well about a product without access to the people who know it, can't post on time without sign-off, and can't judge what worked without your sales team saying which enquiries were any good.
- One named decision-maker who can approve within a day, and a deputy for when they travel.
- An hour a month with the founder or the lead specialist, to get the stories and the facts right.
- Sales feedback on every batch of enquiries, so the plan learns from buyers and not from likes.
- Real material: photos, videos and customers who've agreed in writing to be featured.
Who should own the accounts?
You should, from the first day. Pages, ad accounts and files sit in your company's name, and the manager is added as a partner or admin. That's how we work. A provider who insists on creating the account under their own login is holding your audience as security.
What should the first 90 days look like?
- Weeks 1 and 2: access to every account, an audit of what exists, tracking for the WhatsApp route, and a plan for the first month.
- Weeks 3 to 6: the production rhythm settles. You should see the first shoot or the first batch of finished content, reply times being measured, and enquiries tagged by source.
- Weeks 7 to 12: a review of which posts started conversations, what to stop making, and what to make more of, with your sales team confirming which enquiries were qualified.
- Day 90: you can name the platform, format and language that produce qualified enquiries. If the answer is still 'building awareness', ask for the evidence.
How much should social media management cost?
Scope sets the price: the number of platforms, how much original footage is shot each month, how many languages, how many hours of community cover, and whether paid media is managed. Compare those, not the headline fee. Our social media service starts from AED 12,000 a month and is priced on scope, and social media management packages in the UAE shows how to compare tiers fairly.
If all you need is posting on one platform, a freelancer is the better buy, and freelancer or agency in the UAE will help you decide. The wider plan around all this is in social media marketing in the UAE.
Before you sign with anyone, ask to see last month's report for a comparable client, with the names removed. If the first page is followers, you've learned what the job is to them. What the monthly report should show gives you the page to hold it against.
Questions people ask
How much does social media management cost in Dubai?
Scope sets it, not a market rate: the number of platforms, how much original footage, how many languages, community hours, and whether paid media is managed. Magnetic Keys' monthly services start from AED 12,000 excluding VAT and are priced on scope. Compare providers by listing what each includes against those items, and ask for each priced separately.
How many posts a week should social media management include?
There's no right number, and a contract that fixes one is usually padding the calendar. Three strong posts a week is a rhythm a small team can keep. Judge the plan by whether each post has a job, such as answering a question, showing proof or making an offer, rather than by volume.
Who should own my business's social media accounts?
You should. Pages, ad accounts and files belong in your company's name, with the agency added as a partner or admin. If a provider wants to hold the login as the owner, you're renting your own audience. Magnetic Keys keeps accounts, pages and files in the client's name.
How long before social media management shows results?
Ask for review points rather than promises. In the first month you should see a working process and measured reply times. By around day 90 you should be able to trace qualified enquiries to a platform and format. Followers and reach move sooner and mean less, and nobody can honestly promise sales on a timetable.
