How to choose a web design company in Dubai

Open five of a company's live client sites on your phone before you take a meeting. Then ask ten questions about ownership, Arabic, speed and SEO handover.

The short answer

Choose a web design company by testing its live client sites on a phone, then asking who will own the domain, hosting, CMS login and source files, who writes the Arabic, what mobile speed it will commit to, and what SEO handover you get. Rule out any company that won't put ownership in writing, however good the design looks.

The quickest filter takes ten minutes and costs nothing: open five live sites a company has built, on your own phone, on mobile data with Wi-Fi switched off, and run the same short test on each. A portfolio page shows you the best screenshot of every project. The live site shows you what the company actually ships.

Test five live sites on your phone before you take a meeting

Run four checks on each of the five sites, about two minutes apiece, and note anything that fails.

  1. 01Load the site over mobile data and count how long the first screen takes to look usable. Note anything that stays blank, jumps as images load, or ignores your first tap.
  2. 02Use the menu, scroll to the footer and press the buttons above the fold. Does anything lag, shift or answer late?
  3. 03Switch to Arabic if there is an Arabic version. Does the layout mirror properly? Do phone numbers, prices and English brand names inside Arabic sentences read correctly? Ask an Arabic reader to look for thirty seconds, because they'll see in that time what you can't.
  4. 04Tap the WhatsApp and call buttons and see what opens. Fill in the contact form but don't send it. Does it confirm clearly, and does it work with the on-screen keyboard open?

Then repeat the first check on the cheapest or oldest phone you can borrow, because a site that only runs well on a new flagship has been tested on the designer's phone, not your customers'. If three of the five sites disappoint, move on. Put the failures to the company, since a client may have changed the site after launch, but if it can't explain them, assume that's its standard.

Who are the top web design companies in Dubai?

We couldn't find an independent, verifiable ranking, and anyone can publish a top-10 list, including the companies on it. Before you trust one, read our guide to top-10 agency lists.

Build your own shortlist instead. Note who built the sites you admire, which is usually a footer credit or one question to the business owner, and run the phone test on the rest of their work.

What should you ask, and what does a bad answer sound like?

Ask these ten questions of every company on your shortlist. The table shows why each one matters and what a bad answer sounds like.

Ten questions for a web design company, with the reason for each
AskWhy it mattersA bad answer sounds like
Whose name will the domain, the hosting account and the CMS admin login (the area where you edit pages) be in?Whoever holds these controls the site. If the company does, leaving means negotiating with it. Who owns your website goes through each one."We look after all of that for you," with no account holder named.
At handover, do I get the source files, theme and plugin licences, fonts and image licences? You can't edit or rebuild what you don't hold, and a licence in the company's name stops working when you leave."The site is a monthly subscription: it's yours while you keep paying."
Can you show real-visitor speed data for live client sites on mobile?Google's web.dev rates a Largest Contentful Paint of 2.5 seconds or less, an Interaction to Next Paint of 200 milliseconds or less and a Cumulative Layout Shift of 0.1 or less as good, measured at the 75th percentile of visits. Real-visitor data shows whether a site meets that, and a score on a developer's laptop doesn't. See Core Web Vitals. One lab score from a test tool, and nothing from real visitors.
Who writes and proofreads the Arabic, and is the layout built right to left or just flipped?Machine translation and mirrored English layouts read as careless to Arabic readers, and lines that mix Arabic with English names and numbers are where layouts break. Right-to-left design explains what to look for."We add a translation plugin," or "our developer speaks Arabic."
Does Arabic get its own URLs and language tags, or is it a toggle?Separate addresses with hreflang tags let search engines show the right language. A script that swaps text in the browser gives them one page."It's a language switcher. Google will work it out."
What do I get for SEO at handover?A redesign can erase rankings. You need a redirect map from old addresses to new ones, titles and descriptions carried over, a sitemap, and Search Console set up in your name. Migrating a site without losing rankings has the detail."SEO is a separate package," when you already have pages that rank.
After launch, how do I edit the site, who fixes faults, and what does each cost?If every change needs a ticket and a quote, you'll stop updating and the site goes stale. Without a named owner for faults and security updates, the repair becomes your problem."Send us a request and we'll quote," or "We'll see what we can do."
What isn't in this quote?Content writing, translation, photography, plugins, stock images and annual fees are the usual extras. A quote with no exclusions list will grow."It's all included," with no scope list.
Where will the site and its form data be hosted, and why?Location can matter for sites that collect sensitive data, and the right answer depends on your sector and a lawyer's view. As of 15 June 2026 Morgan Lewis reported that the implementing regulations of the UAE's federal personal data law, the PDPL, had yet to be issued, so a confident rule with no source deserves a follow-up.A confident legal rule, with no clause to point to.
Who exactly will build my site, and can I speak to a client who launched more than six months ago?The team that pitches and the team that delivers can be different people, and six months is long enough for problems to have shown up."We can't share client contacts."

Treat ownership as a gate, then count the fails

Mark each answer pass, partial or fail, and treat the first two questions as a gate. One fail on ownership ends the conversation however good the portfolio looks. For the other eight, two fails means you move on.

Don't average the scores. A beautiful site on a domain you don't control is a lease, not a purchase.

Should price decide it?

No: use the table to filter first, and compare prices only between companies that pass. Our own websites start from AED 35,000 excluding VAT. What a website costs in Dubai explains what moves the number, and when one quote comes in far below the others, ask which of the ten rows it leaves out, because the gap has to come from somewhere. Cheap website design covers the cases where low cost is the right call.

When two or three companies pass, send each the same written brief. A website brief that gets you accurate quotes shows how to write it so the replies can be compared.

Questions people ask

01How do I know if a web design company's portfolio is real?

Open the live sites instead of the screenshots, and look for the company's credit in the footer. Ask the business owner, not the company, whether they own the domain and can edit the site themselves. Ask for one client you can call who launched more than six months ago.

02Who should own the domain name of my website?

You should, registered in your company's name with a shared company mailbox as the contact. The designer can be added as a technical contact while the work is under way. If a company registers it in its own name for convenience, you may have to negotiate to get it back, so settle it before you pay the deposit.

03Do I need a web design company, or can I use a template?

A template can be right for a simple brochure site, especially if you'll write the content yourself. You need a design company when you need Arabic and English done properly, connections to a CRM or payments, or a redesign that has to keep the rankings you already have.

04Does my website have to be hosted in the UAE?

That depends on your sector and the data you collect, and anyone who gives you a flat rule should be able to cite it. If you handle health, finance or other sensitive data, ask your regulator or a lawyer. For an ordinary brochure site, ask why the company chose its host and whether the account is in your name.
