Offline conversions

Also known as: offline conversion import · CRM conversions

Definition

Offline conversions are outcomes that happen outside the website, such as a qualified call, a booked viewing or a closed sale, sent back to an ad platform and matched to the original click or lead so that bidding can learn from real results.

The mechanism is simple and easy to skip. Capture the platform's click identifier, such as Google's GCLID, or the lead's contact details at the moment of enquiry, store it on the CRM record, and upload the outcome when the record changes status. If the identifier wasn't captured at the start, there's nothing to match to later, so build the capture first and the upload second.

Long sales cycles are the other trap. A property sale or a high-value contract can close long after an attribution window has shut, so send an earlier outcome that arrives in time, such as 'qualified' or 'viewing booked', and keep the final sale for reporting. Volume matters too, because an outcome that happens a handful of times a month may be too sparse for automated bidding to learn from. Send only what consent covers.
