Salon marketing ideas in Dubai: filling the quiet weekdays

Fill a salon's quiet weekday hours from the inside out: your client list on WhatsApp first, then Maps and Instagram, with offers that don't cheapen you.

The short answer

Fill a salon's quiet weekdays from the inside out: message existing clients on WhatsApp with two specific slots, fix Google Maps and Instagram for nearby searches, and only then pay for ads. Offer a named add-on in the quiet block rather than a blanket discount, and check Dubai's promotion permit before you advertise the offer.

Start with the clients you already have, not with an ad. A client who trusts you can be offered Tuesday at 11:30 for the price of a WhatsApp message, while a stranger needs an ad, a profile that earns their trust and a reason to choose you over the salon down the road. So the order of work is client list first, Maps and Instagram second, paid ads last.

How big is the gap you're trying to fill?

Pull eight weeks of bookings, mark every hour of every day as booked or empty, and list your ten emptiest blocks. If the answer is 'Tuesday to Thursday before 2 pm', you have a target. If it's 'everything', you have a demand problem, which a quiet-hours offer won't solve.

Price the gap. Imagine a fictional salon with four stylists working 10 am to 2 pm from Tuesday to Thursday, which is 48 stylist-hours. In that fictional salon, if half the hours are empty and an average booking brings in AED 220 an hour, the 24 empty hours leave AED 5,280 a week uncollected. That figure tells you how much effort a fix deserves, and the first fix should cost nothing but messages.

Your quiet block may be someone else's day off. The federal government's weekend has been Saturday and Sunday, with a half day on Friday, since 1 January 2022, and Sharjah moved its government to a Friday, Saturday and Sunday weekend from the same date. Private companies set their own week. So ask your regulars which days they're free, and aim the quiet-block offer at the people who can use it.

Which offers fill a quiet hour without cheapening the salon?

An add-on in a named slot beats a discount, because it keeps your menu price intact. A hair mask or nail care thrown in with any colour service booked Tuesday to Thursday before 2 pm costs you a little product, while a blanket reduction teaches clients that the lower price is the real one.

Never show a crossed-out price you didn't actually charge. The consumer protection page on the UAE government portal sets the maximum penalty for advertising misleading prices and false data about goods and services at two years' imprisonment and a fine of AED 2 million, which is a ceiling and not a typical outcome.

A June 2020 statement from Dubai Economy, now the Department of Economy and Tourism, told traders to get a permit before running a sale or promotion in Dubai. We couldn't confirm today's fee, timing or penalty, so check before you advertise. This isn't legal advice.

How does rebooking on WhatsApp work in practice?

Message the client from the stylist's name, with two specific slots, on the day their next visit is due. Work out 'due' from your own booking history: the average gap between visits for each service, because colour, nails and lashes all run on different cycles.

Here's a fictional message: 'Hi Noura, it's Dana from the salon. Your colour is due about now. I have Tuesday 11:30 or Wednesday 12:30. Which suits you?' Two real times ask the client to pick one, which is easier than composing a reply to 'let us know when you're free'.

  1. 01Get permission first. Add one line to the booking form: 'May we message you on WhatsApp about your next appointment?'
  2. 02Book the next visit before the client leaves the chair, offering two dates instead of 'when would you like?'
  3. 03For clients who left without booking, schedule the message for the day their next visit is due.
  4. 04If there's no reply after two days, send one follow-up and stop. A third message turns a reminder into pressure.
  5. 05After eight weeks, compare reply rate and rebooking rate by wording and by stylist, and keep the version that fills more quiet hours.

WhatsApp is the right channel for this. In GWI's Q2 2026 survey, reported by DataReportal, 84.1% of UAE internet users aged 16 and over said they'd used it in the past month. If your booking system sends reminders through the WhatsApp Business API, ask what each message costs: Meta charges per delivered message, and since 1 October 2026 it has charged again for service messages after the first 1,000 delivered a month per number.

What should Maps and Instagram do for a salon?

Maps decides whether a nearby stranger finds you, and Instagram decides whether they book. Google says local results depend mostly on relevance, distance and popularity, a factor it explains under the heading prominence, and that you can't request or pay for a better local ranking.

List each service as its own service, use real photos of the chairs and the work, set the hours correctly and reply to every review. Ask for a review in the thank-you message the day after the visit, while the result is fresh. The Google Business Profile entry in our glossary and the local SEO guide go deeper, and the post on getting reviews covers asking for them properly.

Treat the Instagram grid as a portfolio with a booking link: one clear result per post, the service name and a price band in the caption, and two highlights called Prices and Book. Then use Stories for the quiet block itself. 'Three slots left tomorrow before 2 pm', posted at 6 pm the evening before, with a tap-through into WhatsApp, sells an hour that would otherwise earn nothing. It takes a phone and a routine, so prove the numbers before paying a social media agency to run it.

Get written consent before you post a client's photo, especially in a women-only space where privacy is part of what you sell.

Free-for-a-post deals carry a permit question. Since the Advertiser Permit became mandatory on 1 February 2026, it has covered promotional posts whether or not money changes hands. The exemption covers people advertising their own goods or services from personal accounts, which doesn't obviously cover a creator you gift a blow-dry to. Ask to see the permit, and ask the National Media Authority if you're unsure. The influencer licence guide explains what to check.

Which treatments fall under a different set of rules?

Possibly any treatment that sounds medical, such as laser or injectables. The Dubai Health Authority's social media advertising standard for licensed health facilities was issued in 2022 and bars absolute or exaggerated claims such as best, safest, 100% and immediate results. It also requires documented consent from anyone shown in an ad.

Whether a particular treatment at your salon counts as a health service is a question for the authority, not for a marketer, so ask before you advertise it. Until you have the answer, keep words like best, safest and 100% out of the copy. The clinic marketing guide covers the clinic side.

What does the first month look like?

Run it as a four-week test, and keep only what moves the number.

  1. 01Week one: the empty-hours audit, the Business Profile and the WhatsApp opt-in line.
  2. 02Week two: messages to lapsed clients, two quiet-block slots each, from the stylist's own name.
  3. 03Week three: one named add-on and the Stories posts.
  4. 04Week four: a recount of filled quiet-block hours against your audit.

If the block still hasn't moved by week five, that's information rather than failure. Either the offer, the hours or the neighbourhood is wrong, and the audit tells you which one to test next.

Questions people ask

01How can a salon get more customers on quiet days?

Start with existing clients: message them on WhatsApp with two specific quiet-hour slots, and add a named add-on rather than a blanket discount. Post the remaining slots on Instagram Stories, and complete your Google Business Profile so nearby searchers find you. Measure success by filled quiet-block hours, not by followers.

02Does a salon in Dubai need a permit to run a promotion?

Possibly. Dubai Economy, now part of the Department of Economy and Tourism, said in 2020 that sales and promotional campaigns need a permit. Today's fees, lead times and fines weren't something we could confirm, so check with the department before advertising a discount. This isn't legal advice.

03Do influencers need an Advertiser Permit to post about a salon?

Likely, yes. Posts that promote a business on social media have needed the permit since 1 February 2026, whether or not the poster is paid. The exemption for people who promote their own business may not stretch to a creator you gift a service to. Ask to see their permit, and ask the National Media Authority if you're unsure.

04How often should a salon message clients on WhatsApp?

Only clients who have agreed to hear from you, and only when the message is useful to them, such as a rebooking prompt on the day their next visit is due. Follow up once if there's no reply, then stop. Review reply and rebooking rates after eight weeks and adjust the wording.
