Dubai Shopping Festival dates and how to market around them

The 32nd Dubai Shopping Festival runs 4 December 2026 to 17 January 2027. A plan for the 45 days: the permit question, residents or visitors, and ad costs.

The short answer

The 32nd Dubai Shopping Festival runs from 4 December 2026 to 17 January 2027, according to its organiser, Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment. Ask the Department of Economy and Tourism about a promotion permit now, decide whether your buyers are residents or visitors from last January's sales, and cap spend by week so one busy fortnight can't use the budget.

The 32nd Dubai Shopping Festival runs from 4 December 2026 to 17 January 2027, per its organiser, Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, part of Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism. That's 45 days counting both ends. The first decision isn't your offer. It's whether the people buying are residents or visitors, because that sets where and when you spend.

Dates and rules below are as of 7 November 2026, and nothing here is legal advice. Travel blogs still list other dates for this edition; ignore them.

What dates and permits matter before the festival starts?

The permit is the item people leave too late. Dubai Economy, now the Department of Economy and Tourism, said in June 2020 that traders must obtain a permit to run sales or promotional campaigns in Dubai. No current fee, lead time or fine could be confirmed, and the rule is for Dubai only.

Ask the department this week, before the creative is made, so the offer you design is one you're allowed to run. Whether and how a business joins the festival's official promotions isn't covered by anything we could read; ask the organiser. If you advertise a price, it has to be true: the government portal puts the ceiling for misleading prices at up to two years in prison and a fine not exceeding AED 2 million.

Who will actually be shopping: residents or visitors?

Work it out from your own sales, not from tourism headlines. Dubai recorded 19.59 million international overnight visitors in 2025, up 5%, according to the Department of Economy and Tourism, but 2026 is a different year. The same department's count for the first eight months of 2026 is 6.97 million, including about 869,000 in August, which Gulf News headlined as the highest since February. Don't plan around a record tourist season.

Dubai's resident population stood at 4,807,185 on the Dubai Data and Statistics Establishment's live count in late September 2026. That count and the visitor count measure different things, so don't add or compare them. What matters is your split.

Here's a test to run today. Take last January's sales and mark the ones that look like visitors: a card issued abroad, if your payment provider shows the country, or a WhatsApp enquiry from a non-UAE number. As a working rule, not a measured figure, if only a small slice looks like visitors, build the plan for residents.

How do you plan 45 days without spending it all in week one?

Split the festival into four phases and give each a weekly cap. Before 4 December: permit, stock and creative. Launch week, 4 to 10 December. The gifting stretch through Christmas and New Year. Then a last-chance push to 17 January, with the end date stated.

Add a stop-loss. Say a made-up shop earns AED 120 per order after product and delivery costs and is willing to give half of that to win an order, so its ceiling is AED 60 per order. In the same made-up case, if orders cost AED 45 in November and AED 70 by the second week of the festival, that's above the ceiling: hold spend flat and shift to retargeting people who already know the shop.

How much auction prices rise during the festival isn't something we can quote; we couldn't verify a figure. Pull your weekly cost per click from last December and January, and use November as your baseline if you have no history. Don't make the festival your first test of a new channel.

Which offers survive 45 days?

Offers that stay profitable at your real margin. Shoppers will have seen sale messages since White Friday, so a blanket discount adds little. Bundles, a gift with purchase and spend thresholds set above your average order value lift the basket without cutting every price. The margin sum is in the White Friday plan.

Decide before the festival what happens on 18 January. Ramadan is expected to begin 22 days later, and a shopper trained by seven weeks of discounts will wait for the next one. Pick the dates you'll discount in the next twelve months and write them down.

What changes if your customers are visitors?

  • Fix your Google Business Profile first: opening hours including the festival's late nights, photos, and your Makani number so people can find the door.
  • Reply to questions on WhatsApp in the language they write in. A visitor won't wait a day for an answer.
  • Show prices in dirhams and say what's included. Surprises at the till become one-star reviews.
  • Target people physically in the emirate if the offer is in-store, and check the location setting in your ad account.
  • Ask for reviews at the till, in English at least, because visitors read reviews more than they read your site.

Measure the festival in gross profit against an ordinary six weeks, not in revenue. If the work is too much for the team during those weeks, e-commerce marketing support needs briefing before 4 December, and the UAE marketing calendar shows what else is landing in the same weeks. Questions people ask

01When is the Dubai Shopping Festival 2026?

The 32nd Dubai Shopping Festival runs from 4 December 2026 to 17 January 2027, according to its organiser, Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, part of the Department of Economy and Tourism. Some travel sites list other dates; rely on the organiser.

02Do I need a permit to run a promotion during the festival?

In June 2020 Dubai Economy, now the Department of Economy and Tourism, said traders must obtain a permit to run sales or promotional campaigns in Dubai. Current fees, lead times and fines couldn't be confirmed, so ask the department before you advertise. This isn't legal advice.

03Does the Dubai Shopping Festival bring more customers to my business?

No verified figure says what a typical business gains. Compare your sales in the same weeks last year with an ordinary period, and split them into residents and visitors. Dubai's visitor numbers in 2026 are lower than the pace of 2025, so plan from your own data.

04How much do ads cost during the Dubai Shopping Festival?

We couldn't verify a figure for auction prices in the festival weeks. Look at your own cost per click for the same weeks last year, use November as a baseline if you have none, and set a weekly spend cap and a cost-per-order ceiling before the festival starts.
