Social media questions from UAE businesses

Answers on Meta, TikTok, Snapchat, LinkedIn, influencer permits and what social media management costs, for UAE business owners.

01Is TikTok allowed in the UAE?

Yes, and it's heavily used: about three in four UAE internet users aged 16 and over told GWI's Q2 2026 survey that they'd used TikTok in the past month, and TikTok's own ad tools count 13.7 million users aged 18 and over. What you post still falls under UAE media and advertising rules, including the Advertiser Permit for promotional content. Confirm details with the National Media Authority.

02Which social media platforms do people in the UAE use most?

WhatsApp comes first: GWI's Q2 2026 survey, published by DataReportal, found 84.1 per cent of UAE internet users aged 16 and over had used it in the past month. YouTube followed at 81.4 per cent, Instagram 78.5, TikTok 75.5 and Facebook 75.2. These are self-reported past-month use, not time spent, so pick platforms by where your own buyers decide.

03How much does social media management cost in Dubai?

Magnetic Keys' social media management starts from AED 12,000 a month, excluding VAT, and includes a monthly studio day. That's our price, not a market average. Compare any package by what it produces: originals by format and language, shoot days, comment and DM reply hours, and exclusions such as paid ads and creator fees. A template and a scripted, shot and edited video shouldn't count as the same post.

04How much do Meta ads cost in the UAE?

Meta ads run on an auction, so there's no rate card and any quoted average belongs to someone else's account. You set the budget; your cost per lead depends on your audience, offer and season. Work backwards: decide the most you can pay for a lead, then budget for enough leads to judge the campaign. Our management starts from AED 12,000 a month, with ad spend paid to Meta directly.

05Does Instagram marketing work for UAE businesses?

Yes, when what you sell looks good and the next step is one tap away: a menu, a booking, a WhatsApp chat. In GWI's Q2 2026 survey, 78.5 per cent of UAE internet users aged 16 and over said they'd used Instagram in the past month. It's weak on its own for B2B or long sales cycles. Count the enquiries that start in DMs, not just likes.

06Does TikTok marketing work in Dubai?

It works for businesses that can show something worth watching in the first seconds, filmed vertically and captioned in the languages their buyers read. Post organically first, see which videos hold attention, then put paid budget behind the best one. It works poorly for reaching a short list of named B2B buyers. Measure enquiries, not views, and give each video a trackable WhatsApp link.

07Do Snapchat ads work in the UAE?

They can, but treat Snapchat as a second channel. Snap's advertising tools showed 5.09 million users in the UAE in late 2026, which is advertising reach rather than a headcount. The question isn't whether the ads are legit but whether they pay back, so test with a capped budget and vertical video once Meta or Google already works, and count sales that don't click straight through.

08Is LinkedIn worth it for B2B marketing in the UAE?

LinkedIn is worth paying for when one customer is worth many times what a lead costs, which is typical of B2B. Its advertising tools showed 12.0 million members in the UAE in late 2026, but that counts registered members, not active users. Start with posts from your founder or sales lead, which cost hours rather than dirhams, then add ads aimed at named companies once you know which message gets replies.

09Do influencers need a licence in the UAE?

Mostly yes. As of November 2026, The National reported that the Advertiser Permit is required for anyone posting promotional content on social media, paid or unpaid, and Gulf News reported it has been mandatory since 1 February 2026. The National Media Authority now issues it. People promoting their own business from a personal account were reported as exempt. Details rest on press and law-firm reports, so confirm with the authority.

10How much does the UAE influencer permit cost, and what is the penalty?

Pinsent Masons reported in January 2026 that the permit is free for the first three years for UAE citizens and residents, then AED 1,000 a year from the fourth. The free period was tied to registering before the deadline, so don't assume a new applicant gets it. The same firm reported fines of up to AED 10,000 for posting without a permit; another source calls that a starting fine. Confirm current figures with the authority.

11What does an influencer marketing agency do?

It finds creators whose audience fits yours, negotiates fees and usage rights, checks each creator's Advertiser Permit, briefs and approves content, and reports tracked results. You can do all of that yourself for one or two creators. An agency earns its fee when you're juggling several creators, paid usage rights and approvals at once. Pick creators on audience fit and tracked enquiries, not follower counts.

12Should I hire a freelancer or an agency for social media?

A freelancer suits one platform at modest volume, with you supplying the footage. An agency suits you when production, both languages, replies to comments and DMs, and paid boosts need to sit under one plan. The risk with one person is cover, so ask who posts and replies when they're away. Whoever you pick, the accounts stay in your name, with logins you control.

13Should my social media be in Arabic, English or both?

Post in the languages your enquiries arrive in. Look at the last month of comments, DMs and WhatsApp messages: if some come in Arabic, you need Arabic content written by a native writer, not translated captions. The UAE government portal names Arabic the official language and says expatriates outnumber nationals, so many businesses need both. Track results per language so one can't hide the other.

14How do I know if social media is working?

Count enquiries and sales, not likes. Give every channel a way to be counted: a unique link, a WhatsApp message prefilled with a reference, a code for each creator, and a 'how did you find us?' question on every enquiry. Review them weekly. Followers and views help you spot content worth repeating, but they can't tell you whether the fee is worth paying.

15What are the rules for clinics advertising on social media in Dubai?

Under the Dubai Health Authority's 2022 standard on medical advertising in social media, an official account must state its medical advertisement licence number, and absolute or exaggerated claims such as 'best' or '100%' are barred. It also requires documented consent from anyone shown and medical director approval of content naming the facility, influencers included. New clinics can't advertise during initial approval. This isn't legal advice; confirm with DHA.
