Revenue per recipient (RPR)

Also known as: RPR · revenue per email

Definition

Revenue per recipient is the revenue generated by an email campaign divided by the number of recipients, measuring the commercial value of each send rather than engagement with it.

It is the correct primary metric for lifecycle marketing because it cannot be improved by sending to more people or by chasing opens. A campaign with a lower open rate and higher RPR is straightforwardly better.

Tracking it by segment quickly reveals where value actually sits — usually in a small proportion of the list — and justifies investment in segmentation rather than list growth.

Formula

RPR = Attributed revenue ÷ Recipients
